For over 20 years, the Utah Symphony and Opera has been making a pilgrimage in one form or another to
Deer Valley and Park City to present a variety of classical music.
They became part of the annual event — the Deer Valley Music Festival. If you wish to hear the best in classical and popular music, arrive in Park City during this event. It takes place for 4 weeks during the summer months.
The Utah Symphony and Opera began as separate entities. The founding of the Utah Symphony dates from 1940. The Utah Opera began in 1978. The new body became successful performing 52 weeks of the year, one of only 18 orchestra groups to do so in the United States. One of their regular tours is to Park City.
As part of the Deer Valley Music Festival, the Utah Symphony and Opera may appear in any of the three major venues. These include the outdoor amphitheater at Deer Valley Resort, St. Mary's church or in any salon of a private home. While the musical fare is consistent in quality, the offerings vary from performance to performance and from year to year. You can hear renderings of all the classical works including Beethoven's Fifth and Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. There are also modern classics mixed amidst the works of traditional opera, chamber music and modern popular music.
The versatility of the Utah Symphony and Opera is unquestionable. Their musical quality of their performances, in both Park City and at home in Salt Lake City, is indisputable. If you happen to be vacationing in Park City during the summer, try to obtain a ticket. It is worth it.
