Salt Lake City International Airport in Salt Lake City, UT
The Salt Lake City International Airport had very humble beginnings. It started in 1911 as a thin landing strip and was used only for aerobatic flights. By the year 1920, it had upgraded itself to a mail carrier landing area. In 1926 the first commercial flight of the Western Airlines flew from here but it was only in 1933 that the proper structure of a modern airport came into existence.
The airport saw 22 million people arrive and depart last year and has the distinction of being the 22nd busiest international airport in USA. There are 14 carriers that use this airport to carry its passengers. This airport is Delta Airline's second largest hub and is home to Continental airlines and American airlines as well. It has two terminals and 83 gates for passenger movement.
The airport is run more like a community airport as it has volunteers and the city's mayor as the advisory members. There are many different parking areas depending on the usage. There is a short term parking as well as a rental car company garage area. For long term parking you'll have to use shuttles which are free.
The Salt Lake City International Airport is the only debt free airport in the whole of United States since it retired its bonds in April this year. The financial position being strong, there are massive revamping plans in the air and by the end of the year; the airport would be able to offer many more facilities than before. There are plenty of dining facilities at the airport with more than 12 restaurants providing diverse menus. For people who need their Starbucks everywhere, you won't be disappointed. There are many bookshops and plenty of shops for the last minute shopping.
