In 2002, Salt Lake City hosted the XIX Winter Olympic Games. Many of the outdoor winter events for these Olympic Games were held at the Park City and Deer Valley ski resorts in nearby Park City. The Utah Olympic Park was also constructed just north of Park City for the purposes of hosting the Nordic Jumping, Bobsled, Skeleton, and Luge events.
Today, the
Utah Olympic Park is used as an active training center for Olympic and development level athletes throughout the year. In winter months, the training center features athletes training in Nordic Jumping, Bobsled, Skeleton, and Luge events. While in the summer months, the summer aerial training splash pool, mountain coaster, and zip lines are used frequently by some of the world's top athletes as they train for various events and competitions.
The
Utah Olympic Park is open to tourists who are interested in learning more about the 2002 Winter Olympic Games and who may want the chance to glimpse the next generation of Olympians in training. Many visitors to the Park take the
Utah Olympic Parks Guided Shuttle Tour, which provides a convenient way to explore the park and features interesting narration and a behind-the-scenes look at many areas of the park. You can also explore the park on your own, visiting the 2002 Winter Olympics Museum and the Ski Museum on-site. You can also treat yourself to an exciting ride on a bobsled, where you may reach speeds at up to 80 miles per hour! The public is also invited to ice skate on the Olympic Oval and to partake in various lessons for skiing, snowboarding, and other events.
